Introduction

In the College of Health Science and Technology, that have established Department of Biological Science and Technology, Food Science, and Food and Beverage Management. The establishment of Institute of Health Technology was approved by Ministry of Education in 2008 and it started enrollment in 2009. The Department of Food and Beverage Management transferred from Hsinchu campus to Taipei campus, and reconstructed into the College of Health Science and Technology in 2010. The department is devoted into pursuing the value of health meaning. Since 2010, the Department of Biological Science and Technology has been divided two groups by (1) Section of Biotechnology and (2) Section of Cosmetic Biotechnology. We hope to cultivate more diversified experts.

The major features for development at the college

  1. The College emphasizes ” research and actual practice as well as the perspectives from both production and management”. Fundamental and professional courses are intensive at the College. Laboratory practice and internship are also highlighted for the opportunity to prove the theories learned. The college hired teachers from the industry and arranged field trips and on-site internship to allow better understanding about the development in the industry for our students. The college is expecting become the unique “College of Actual Practice” because every department has on-site internship which helps our students get involve in the activities in the industry when they are at school.
  2. Help students to acquire related certificates. The college has build “Tree Diseases and Pests Diagnostic Center”, “Food Analysis and Testing Center”, “Research Center for Healthy Meals” and “Research Center for Biomass Energy. In the future, “Cosmetic Testing Center”, and “Research Center for Stem Cell” will be setup to continuously build the characteristics of the College and expand the working opportunities for our students.
  3. Planning the field of Health Preservation:
    The Department of Food Science, it plans to combine Chinese herbal medicine and health food in this highly promising and competitive field under the global trend of pursuing a healthy and natural lifestyle. The Department of Biological Science and Technology sets their goals to cultivate research and development professionals in “daily life biotechnology” with the emphasis on health and microbial biotechnology. The Department of Food and Beverage Management aims to train students into experts in “research and production of healthy food and beverage” who focuses on making healthy and nutritious food and beverage. Our teachers' specialties match the development goals. The College will apply for big research projects or projects cooperating with the industry in the future. Currently, cooperating R&D and marketing projects are under discussion with Taiwan Sugar Corporation and Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation.
  4. Besides professional knowledge, students need to know how to do marketing, how to effectively expand the market and provide comprehensive service. Offer industrial marketing management courses which prepare students for the field of professional sales service.
